It is simple to rasterize image using special software and to import the raster in CATIA. It’s simple to use, and very useful when you have to draw a plane sketch from an image.
To do that, you need an application that can make raster from images. Personally I use MagicTracer because is very easy to use and fast.
If you read about me, probably you already know that I`m passionate about Mountain Biking, so I decide to draw a bike part, the brake disk used on my bike.
How to raster an image using CATIA
1. First you must have a raster application, in my case MagicTracer.
2. Open the image in the raster application an export in to .dxf format.
3. Drag and drop the .dxf resulted from raster application in CATIA.
4. Copy the resulted drawing in to a new Part.
5. Using Pad command get the thickness of the part, in my case 4 mm.
Note: A very great option that we have is the command Resize that allows us to change the size of the part. In my case, the brake disk have more than on size, it has three dimensions: 140 mm, 160 mm and 180 mm.
