If you are hired in a company that is using CATIA I’m sure that you receive a task to save the CATPart file without history (“dead” solid), also this practice is also applicable if you are freelancer.
To save a part in CATIA V5 without history is important when you want to not show the complete tree of a Part for many reasons (small size, protect your work, etc.)
If you want to save a part in CATIA without history you must follow the below steps:
- Open the CATPart that you want to transform in a solid without history.
- Insert this part in a CATProduct.
- Select Tools -> Generate CATPart from Product…
- The generate process from step 3 will generate the CATPart without history. Now you can save this file local.
Tip 1: If you have more than one CATPart you can add these in a CATProduct and save all these in a single CATPart by selecting the CATProduct from tree.
Tip 2: Also, if you have a CATProduct with many components (CATParts) and you want to save a single one, only thing that you need to do is to select the component and apply again Tools -> Generate CATPart from Product…
Tip 3: Another thing that is important to know is that you can save from a CATProduct more than one CATPart, by hiding the undesired CATParts.
